Honouring Community Voices: Supporting Families and Creating Safety

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

The story begins with a 2-year housing solutions lab and the leadership of Indigenous youth who have aged out of child welfare. Motivated by people facing barriers in the North End, together with Fearless R2W, participants will learn about this project that sits at the crossroads of traditional knowledge, lived experience, systemic change and regulatory navigation. Participants will learn how community members' stories informed a road map, and how this project is implementing those ideas to honour their voice, support families, and create safer public places through a community safety host project. The wahkotowin (Cree term for kinship) policy being developed will also be highlighted for participants to come learn more. This initiative will bring Indigenous and community values to security guard training for a new employment opportunity for community members that creates safety too.
